Sustainability
1. Commitment to Sustainability
At IJM Toll Division, sustainability is integral to how we manage and operate our highways. As part of the IJM Group, we are committed to creating long-term value by balancing operational excellence, environmental responsibility, social wellbeing, and strong governance across BESRAYA, NPE and LEKAS Highways. Our approach supports safe, efficient mobility while contributing positively to the communities and environments in which we operate.
2. Sustainability Pillars
a) Marketplace
We are committed to responsible and ethical operations that deliver value to road users, regulators, and other stakeholders. This includes maintaining high standards of safety, service reliability, operational efficiency and transparent engagement across our highway operations.
b) Environment
We manage our environmental impact through responsible resource use, energy efficiency, emissions management and environmental protection measures. Our focus is on minimising our operational footprint while supporting long-term environmental resilience.
c) Workplace
Our people are at the core of our operations. We prioritise occupational health and safety, workforce wellbeing, capability development and a positive work culture, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for employees and contractors.
d) Community
We engage proactively with the communities surrounding our highways. Through road safety programmes, community engagement and social initiatives, we aim to contribute positively to community wellbeing and build long-term trust.
3. Sustainability Framework
4. Double Materiality Matrix
IJM Toll Division applies a Double Materiality approach to identify and prioritise the sustainability matters most significant to our business and stakeholders.
The assessment considers both the impact of our operations on the economy, environment and people, and the impact of sustainability matters on IJM Toll Division’s performance and resilience. Key material topics identified include, among others, product quality and safety, health and safety, employee engagement and development, climate mitigation and adaptation, digital transformation, good governance and ethics, cybersecurity, environmental (waste) and resource management, and community investment.
This ensures our sustainability efforts remain focused, risk-aware and aligned with stakeholder expectations across our highways.
5. Mapping of Material Matters to IJM Sustainability Pillars
The material matters identified through IJM Toll Division’s Double Materiality assessment are mapped to IJM Group’s sustainability pillars of Economic, Environment and Social. This structured mapping ensures that each material matter is clearly positioned within the relevant pillar, supporting effective prioritisation, clear accountability and consistent implementation across our highway operations.
